Part of why I love living in Bangkok so much, is that it has opened my eyes to traveling and exploring. It’s exciting to visit a new city where all the streets seem unfamiliar yet stimulating. However it is easy to end up in one crowded tourist areas, while missing out on the beauty of what could only be a few sois away.
The Company that contacted me is called, Withlocals, which aims to change some things in the travel industry.
By removing the intermediary travel agencies, Withlocals aims to connect locals and travelers directly through food and experiences. Now what exactly does this mean? They are going to offer the opportunity of having a dinner in a local family’s home, navigate a long-tail boat, or where to find the best street food stalls.
I think this is a good idea. I love going out and exploring Bangkok, and I love seeing the main sites: after all this is what Bangkok is famous for! However the idea of discovering Bangkok off the beaten track really appeals to me. Since I have started work, I feel that I have become immersed in Thai culture a whole lot more than I have previously done, but I love the idea of cooking a Thai meal and then enjoying sitting down with a Thai family together.
If you want to become a host and take part in the mission to redesign the tourism industry visit the website www.withlocals.com/locations/thailand/bangkok and subscribe for the first launch in September!
