People watching at the Landmark

Happy hour at the Greenhouse Terrace in the Landmark Hotel is one of my favourite places to sit back, people watch and soak up the atmosphere of Bangkok.

Nana is on the whole a great place to people watch, so this serves as the perfect spot to indulge in one of my favourite pastimes! From seeing wrinkly old men hand in hand with a beautiful Thai girl (it must be their charm?!) to watching a Thai lady sipping tea, approaching single men to enquire if they’re looking for “company”, there is always plenty going on.

I’m not intending to get into the rights or wrongs of Bangkok’s notorious sex trade, and certainly when I first moved here I was shocked at these very same sights, but (again rightly or wrongly) it doesn’t take long for one to start to develop immunity to what was once something very surreal.

I also love the over sized funky beer glasses and am hoping to be able to hunt a pair down for my apartment (possibly at Chatuchak?).  Heineken is 230B a pint, but go for Happy Hour which starts at 6pm daily – the buy one get one free makes it far more reasonable.

You are right, it doesn’t take long to become immune to the whole thing, and even starting to thing its ok. I have to say that is a ridiculous glass though!
